Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes isn’t shy when it comes to doubling down on a position. The most notable “double-down” came in his first NFL Draft in 2021. Selecting both Alim McNeil and Levi Onwuzurike with 2nd and 3rd Round Picks.
Secondary Nightmares
The Detroit Lions finished the 2023 season with the 24th Ranked Secondary in the NFL. Detroit couldn’t afford not to overcorrect the worst unit on their team. Do Lions fans not remember the 9 week stretch where almost every WR-1 on the opposing team slaughtered the secondary? Detroit have now selected Cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr., with their first two picks.
During the 2023 College Football Season, Rakestraw only gave up 18 receptions for 197 yards on 28 targets. Allowing only 1 Touchdown, Ennis Rakestraw was a stalwart defender during the magical 11-Win Season for the Missouri Tigers.
Statement of Intent:
The Detroit Lions needed to address the secondary and they’ve done just that. History tells us that if you have a Top 10 Scoring Defense, the Super Bowl is yours to lose. Welcome to Detroit, Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
