Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions had major needs at the Cornerback and Defensive End position. Notable defensive names at the top of projected boards included Byron Murphy, Dallas Turner, Terrion Arnold and Quinyon Mitchell.
Written in the Stars
Heading into the draft, I had Terrion Arnold as the 2nd Overall Defensive Player only behind Byron Murphy. The expectation was that it would take a bold trade up by Brad Holmes to sneak into the mid-teens to select Terrion Arnold.
How could the #1 Cornerback in the class fall into the twenties? Well, it helps that 6 Quarterbacks were taken in the first 12 picks (Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy and Bo Nix). It also helps that a huge run of Offensive and Defensive Lineman followed the Bo Nix selection.
The NFL Draft has been a magical experience each year with Brad Holmes in charge. Producing unbelievable results, and delivering hope to a city that has been waiting for decades for this moment.
Detroit will be selecting in the 2nd Round shortly. Like all of you, I’ll be eagerly waiting to see who the Lions select at 61. Unless Brad Holmes decides to trade back, then we’ll have to wait a little longer.
